Should I Get A Facelift?

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR A FACELIFT?

The time to consider a facelift and associated procedures is when the aging process becomes noticeable and bothersome to you.  For some unusual patients, this happens in their 20’s.  For others, it could be their late 70’s.  The average “age” range is the 40’s and 50’s.  Facelift surgery cannot “stop the clock,” but it does turn back the hands. The clock is turned back at the time of your facelift.  After a facelift, most patients look seven to ten years younger.  The aging process then continues, but you will always look younger than if you had never had surgery. Patients frequently wonder whether having a facelift will accelerate the need for another. The answer is no. If you had an identical twin who underwent a facelift, your twin would always look younger than you.

The length of time your results may last is based on your individual rate of aging but is also affected by other factors. Genetics, general health, sun exposure, diet, exercise, smoking and other habits all influence the longevity of results.  The better care you take of yourself, the longer the results will last.  Being within twenty pounds of your desired weight at the time of the facelift will enhance the duration of the results. When properly performed, facelift surgery may be revised several times, as needed.

Here in Southern California, the entertainment capital of the world, many of my patients are in the public eye and wish to maintain an attractive and youthful appearance.  Although not mandatory, procedures may be repeated to successfully extend the results.  Some patients are so pleased with the results, they desire to repeat the surgery later.  Others are satisfied with the initial procedure and continue to look and feel great throughout their lives.
